The All New 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray
And the award for Motor Trend car of the year goes to, the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, the hottest news in cars for 2020.
The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, is Chevy’s first mid motor car, in history. What makes this car stand head and shoulders above the rest? Let’s take a look at what makes Chevy’s eighth generation Corvette so special.
The C8, is fitted with air dams under car to reduce lift, and the hybrid rear spoiler touches down in the middle to flow air underneath. The sculpted body allows for minimal aerodynamic drag, and the vehicles handles and latches are hidden behind other features for an almost seamless appearance.
The new Corvette comes with two roof options. Customers can choose from a removable hard top, that is secured by three easy release latches, and stores easily in the hatch or a hard-top convertible, which is a first for Chevy, that can be activated while driving, and stores in the hatch. Both roof options offer security, quiet, beauty and best of all, result in no loss of cargo space.
Having the engine in the back, allows for two storage options. There is cargo space under the hood, that is big enough to fit luggage, as well as in the hatch in the rear, that can fit two bags of golf clubs.
Driver Centric Cockpit:
This is where all the magic happens. The cockpit is designed specifically for driver experience. The controls wrap around you so everything is at your fingertips. The electronic transmission range select allows for more elbow room, and the cabin controls bisect the interior. The reconfigurable wide screen gauge cluster is fully visible through the almost rectangular steering wheel, and the 8 inch colour touchscreen display is angled toward the driver, making the all new Corvette almost exclusively a driver focused experience. Because the engine is not in the front, you get a better view over the hood, as well as a great open sight line due to the engine not being in the way. The flat edges of the steering wheel further minimize view obstruction, for an almost truly panoramic view.
Chevrolet really did well with retaining the Corvettes iconic styling queus, while also modeling European supercars with a chunkier midsection, and more prominent rear panels.
To start, there are a plethora of driving options such as tour, track, sport, or weather mode. By pressing Z mode on the steering wheel, the driver can customize almost anything from electronic suspension settings, throttle, and even the steering field. Chevrolet has released 12 colour options for 2020, as opposed to the previous 10. Coupled with customizable interior colour combinations. This is likely the most option abundant Corvette to date.
Last, but most certainly not least, let’s look at the reason you decided to read this blog – performance. The all new 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray features a 6.2L V8 engine, pumping out a pulse pounding 495 horsepower with the Z51 package. Going from 0 to 60, happens in about 2.8 seconds. The mid engine position gives the Corvette about a 50/50 front to rear weight distribution, which means a quicker pick up, and the dual clutch delivers smooth, crisp shifting. The transmission, which is available in automatic only, can be changed by either pushing a button on the gear selector, or with the wheel mounted shift paddles.
Because the engine is behind the driver, everything else is pushed forward in the cockpit, and the front tires have been pushed backward. The rear weight bias allows for better acceleration, and because the wheels are set back, while the driver is more forward in the cockpit, it feels as though the car is moving around the driver, rather than moving on the peripheral of the vehicle. It creates the illusion that the driver is almost a part of the vehicle.
With its beautiful styling, drivercentric cockpit, and brilliant mid motor design, it’s no wonder that the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is THE car that’s on everyone’s mind this year.
