Ray Cullen was born in St. Catharines, Ontario on September 20, 1941. He was the youngest of three brothers to play in the NHL. Ray’s success as a hockey player in the minor leagues led to him playing in the NHL for nine years on four different teams, two of them Original Six clubs.
Ray’s road to the NHL began when he played for the St. Catharines Tee Pees, a Junior A hockey club, from 1958-1962. Ray was captain of this team for the last two years that he was part of the club. During this time (1959-1960) Ray led his team to the Memorial Cup Championship, though the club was eliminated after the first round. 1962 was the year that Ray turned pro, playing for the New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings, Minnesota North Stars and the Vancouver Canucks. He retired from hockey in 1971.
After his hockey career Ray joined his brother Brian in St Catharines to work at Brian’s car dealership as a salesman. Ray worked his way up the ladder to become the General Sales Manager and then was awarded a New Car Dealership of his own from General Motors.
Ray would set up shop in London, Ontario in 1977. He has been the owner / dealer principle of Ray Cullen Chevrolet Buick GMC in London for thirty-six years, as well as of Larry MacDonald Chev Buick GMC in Strathroy, Ontario for the past twenty years. Together with his wife Jackie of forty nine years, they have raised five sons, for which Ray gives Jackie all the credit. His sons now manage the dealerships in London and Strathroy. Ray could not be more proud of their accomplishments.
